Who Am I? An American in the Midwest

Who am I? That is not the question. Today is more a question of how am I?

It is the time of year or at least the time of an election year that we see countless political ads at an endless rate. They are some of the saddest things we have to endure. Political ads are nothing but a time to pull out all the old childhood games of he said she said and a lot of they did it not me.

Just turn on the news everything is Trump said this, Hillary said this.

I get so tired of the childish finger pointing that goes on in politics. Every politician I have heard changes their tune from time to time and none of them tell us what they will do. They merely say whatever crowd they are in front of at the time what they want to hear. Right now it is not about telling us any vital information it is all about gathering votes.

How do we know what they will do after they are elected? Honestly, we will not know until the time occurs. So much mudslinging and name calling that it feels to me that we as the people are forgotten.

My one thought is pure. I agree with Trump that the country needs run as a business and we need to straighten up our entire system. But when any of the candidates running keep telling us they understand the plight of the common man I have to wonder. How can billionaires and millionaires understand the difficult situation of what people are dealing with in today's world?

We are a country that exists of people wondering how to put food on the table, how to keep our electric on, and worries about health care. How can individuals who spend thousands on nonsense understand that feeling?

My late mother-in-law was of that similar mindset. She had the warped concept that the mere fact of living in the United States automatically meant you had everything. Her thoughts included the idea that only the lazy or addicted went without.

I am a little ashamed that at one point in my life I didn't know the truth and in a way believed the same thing. But as with all things in life reality came calling and I learned the truth.

Does any of our political candidates understand what it is like to look in the eye of their child and tell them there is no food? Do they know what it is to lay awake all night wondering how to pay the bills? My mother-in-law didn't understand any of that.

We live in the greatest country on the planet. We have so many wonderful things and opportunities as citizens of the United States, yet there are so many ways this great nation is lacking. Health care is my primary complaint. Obamacare was supposed to make sure that everyone got proper medical attention and no one did without ever again.

Now the truth in what has occurred after Obamacare has been a different story. In my life, this program has done quite the opposite, and I know SO many who are in the same situation. Since the bill the was supposed to give everyone access to health insurance went into effect I know people who have lost their insurance.

Was the reason to pass the bill not to provide everyone with low-cost insurance? Instead, it fines those who can not afford to pay the premiums on this so-called low priced insurance. What an oxymoronic thing to do, a penalty charged for not having insurance.

So if you don't have health insurance, you must pay a fine. I know people who don't have the insurance because they don't qualify for aid and can't afford the premiums on their own. How can fine individuals who are already having trouble paying bills because they can't pay another?

Looking past those facts of Obamacare, we move into the fact that finding a doctor now has become almost impossible. You must find one that takes the insurance you can afford, and that is a task that leads to despair.

Clinics and doctors want to interview you now before they accept you as a patient. They don't like it when you have very much wrong with you. In our case, a doctor, my husband, had seen for years wouldn't accept him back as a patient when we moved home again. It had been seven years since he saw him, so it had been too long.

Medical care is difficult enough but finding a physician who will accept ongoing medical problems is not easy. And that doesn't even go into the topic of your chronic pain. Those two little words seem to repeal doctors like garlic on vampires. If you want to get, your doctor to run backward, it is quite simple. Just mention your chronic pain and watch the dust fog as he escapes.

To the world of candidates on the ballot, I ask them not to judge me because I am skeptical about their promises. I am just looking at things from the point of view that has seen a lot of things. I always hold high hopes that things will be different but often find I am disappointed.

You see as will happen we often are slapped with reality when things happen. I learned the lessons of life that can take you from the top of the heap to the very bottom with just one quick motion. My mother-in-law's point of view on the world's needy quickly was proven wrong in our lives.

When my husband was injured at work our life spiraled down. All it took for us to learn hard lessons was a brain injury. That TBI (traumatic brain injury) collapsed our world, nothing would ever be as we knew it.

In the blink of an eye, my world changed, and I learned hard lessons that altered my warped views of the needy.

Politicians come and go but aren't it time all the childish name calling and finger pointing ended? Shouldn't the issues of taking care of the American people be the first thought for any of them? Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Liberalists aren't the point, when did the term AMERICANS get lost in a mess?

Who Am I? What Drives You Crazy? Ignorance, Selfishness, Rudeness

Who am I?
Today I am going to be the person who tells the world what my pet peeves are and what just completely sends me to the moon.

Okay, how do I figure out what is the greatest pet peeve of mine?
I guess I will just start with something. The Internet. Not the use of the web.
The cost of service is outrageous. Everything about the world seems to be connected or only accessible through the internet. We are all in need of internet connections, but getting connected is not just as easy as it sounds.
Some locations are not offered any service at all and some that service is so expensive it is out of the question.

Now, I want to move on to the matter of insurance. We are all required to have auto insurance (if you own a car) and health insurance. Both of those instances are penalized by fines if you do not have them. Okay, that is just a fact. My peeve is the fact that the insurance industry is one of the only things not regulated by the federal government. Well, just how is that right? They make us have them, but they do not control the amount that the companies are allowed to charge.

And then we have Obamacare, which was supposed to help Americans with their health insurance needs. It is just a joke. I know more people who have suffered from their health insurance needs since that went into effect. We have the wonderful, note my hostile attitude. Anyway, there is the Marketplace that is supposed to assist people in getting insured. If you go to the site, you will fill out a questionnaire to help determine if you get any aid in paying the price.

The cost of the insurance ranges in the hundreds of dollars, and if you are lucky, you can get help to pay some of that. But if you do not get insurance you are fined. Okay, the ones penalized are the same people who are having trouble just putting food on the table to feed their families. How is that fair? How is that helping the American Public?

On with the things that bother me. Up and down of the price of gasoline. We hear every year about the rising cost of crude oil, but then the remarkable price goes down. Then out of nowhere, it goes back up.

In my mind, I feel controlled. When things get atrocious, and the public complains about the state of stuff, then suddenly something like a drastic drop in gas happens. Then just as we get used to having a spare dollar or two, BAM they go up again, and we are right back where we started.

Money. How sad that it has reached such a controlling factor in the world.

I will end this mini rant with talking about helping people. Okay, first I am all for helping those in need. I love to do anything I can to help others and don't get me wrong I have been in the position to need help at times in my life.

But why is so much help going so far away? Why can't we help our neighbors before we go to other countries to aid the people? I know they need contribute too, but look around I guarantee you will see someone in arms reach that is in extreme need. So quite stepping over the poor at your feet to get on the planes to go overseas to aid foreign countries.

I do not see it as a beautiful thing when you fly far away to feed the hungry or build homes. Not when you have just walked by hungry, needy, and desperate people to do it. Help here first.

My Mother in law was a prime example of the ignorant who didn't help anyone here. She said the only reason any Americans were hungry or doing without was that they were lazy or drug addicts.

How ignorant that statement was, how ignorant of the way things are. I will admit though that I often wondered as a young woman why people did without. Then, karma slapped me in the face with reality. The reality that every one of us, everyone who has all they need and are sitting in a lovely home, everyone is just one paycheck away from being in a cardboard box.

It is not easy when you find you are homeless. When you realize that there is no help, no one to make sure your children are fed, no one to make sure things are okay.

Our lives were on the top of the mountain when Lynn got hurt. Then before we knew it we were without a home, without food, and unable to get any help (all because the insurance company said they were paying us, even though they were not).

Rude people are also another thing that irritates me to no end. But it seems no matter where you go, there they are.

What are your worst pet peeves? What drives you crazy?

Opinion: The Confederate Battle Flag and Thoughts of My Own

IIt's hilarious how so many things will show us the true colors of another person. Post a picture of a baby on your FaceBook page, and you will see the moms come bursting forth with all the awes they feel. Post a picture of a Harley, and the bikers (both the ones who ride and those who ride in their souls) will shout Hell Yeah!

No matter what you say or show to the world, there will be someone who disagrees strongly with your opinions. That fact is a very ironic point in itself. Because after all, this is YOUR opinion belonging to nobody else. So why does the world get so pissed when someone else has a different thought on any subject?

Isn't this the United States of America and don't we have Freedom of Speech? Isn't that the entire point of the First Amendment?

Sadly, our country hasn't truly had real freedom of speech for a very long time. We have been a country where being 'politically correct' is more important than free speech.
Now I am not saying I wish people were running around hurting others with their words; I merely wish we had the REAL right to disagree or feel differently.

We all want to teach our children to be good people and to have an opinion about things, or at least most of us do.When we teach them this how are we to show them what it is like to have an opinion if we live in a world where no one does?

For me, I relish in the fact that I have my opinions and cherish that my kids share in that. We argue, and we discuss the differences when there are some, and then we move on.

I do have those in my family, and people who I felt were 'friends' at one point in my life, which differ in opinion so strongly that they 'disowned' me. That is their words, not mine; I try not to judge anyone else for their beliefs or their thoughts. Too bad the rest of the world doesn't feel that way.

As we all look at today's headlines, with stories about transgender bathrooms and all the talk about what Caitlin Jenner is doing, it makes me shake my head. My thoughts are this; Why is this such HUGE news? Don't we have starving people around us? Don't we have people going without health care? Don't we have homeless?

So why are the stories about famous people like Jenner making all the most important spots of the news? Have you just sat and watched the local news indeed paying attention? If you have then, you will see the nonsense that gathers far more airtime than the stories that matter.

What has happened to this country, to this world?

I am so unsure of it all that it makes me sad. The only time it seems you can get people to stand up and be upset is when you are doing things that aren't any of their business.

Take the things hanging in my front yard. Flags.
Now I am proud of these beautiful symbols of my history, and I proudly show the world. But, since the Rebel Flag, or more correctly The Confederate Battle Flag, has hung for the world to see, people stopped dropping by to talk, and some look the other way when they drive by.
Does that bother me? No, what bothers me is the ignorance associated with the Confederate flag. A friend of my families who lives in a little town near us was asked to remove his Rebel flag by the law enforcement.
They informed him they did not like nor approve of it and since he is on probation, the man removed the flag.
I see that as an affront and a complete difference of opinion.
The same country that allows (because I have personally seen them) Nazi swastika flags, Black Panther Flags, and other flags of groups that aren't your regular neighborhood groups, those flags are allowed to fly, and no one says anything.
Why? Why have we gotten so consumed with removing anyone else's opinion so strongly that making a person remove a flag that is symbolic of their heritage is the one time the world has an opinion?

The sorry world my flag will continue to fly, and my opinions will continue to be strong. So Who Am  I? Well, I am an opinionated, proud descendant of a Confederate soldier, a redheaded descendant of an Irish immigrant, a tall descendant of a Norse immigrant, and a dark skinned descendant of a Cherokee, Sioux, and Choctaw past.

No Shame Here
